I copied the story my mom, Kathleen, wrote about our meet up with Josh Groban after his concert at Staples Center in Los Angeles, August 17.  There’s a picture of the t-shirt to go along with it if you click on the Twitpic.

After the concert on Wed. Aug. 17 at Staples Center, Los Angeles, my daughter, Kristin, and I decided to stay late and see if we could find out where the rest of the fans were waiting to get autographs. We took the long way around the Center, just walking and talking. Finally we got to the back with the buses and saw everyone else standing behind a low fence. “That has to be them!” We joined the group but we were in the way back. Being short my whole life I knew we wouldn’t stand a chance to get an autograph from the back, but since Josh hadn’t come out yet Kristin looked around for a place for me to sit out the wait. We spent the next hour sitting and sharing on the edge of a planter. I felt sorry for everyone standing, but I guess they wanted to stay in front and not loose their place.

Slowly, slowly the number of fans dwindled down as the hour got later and so word yet if Josh was even going to come out. There was a lot of excitement when the piano player and some others came out to see us. The word now was that Josh would be coming out, too. No hugs, no one on one pictures, but he would be signing. Yea!

Kristin & I were still standing at the back, hoping to get a chance. There were some women with a well-filled backpack standing there also. Apparently they worked at Staples? or somewhere close by and were giving Josh a bunch of gifts. They knew the guards who were allowing them to stand to the side of the fence behind some low bushes. Well since we were in back and I guess I looked harmless enough, leaning on my cane, when we moved to join the women we were allowed to go there also. I was almost at the front when one guy and his mother crowded in front of me. Fortunately Kristin was able to squeeze in on the right of them, the last person Josh would see before heading to his ride.

It took a long time for Josh to work his way down the line, but I knew he would not pass us by, so I was content to wait. I had a picture for him to autograph so I could give it to my boss’s wife, a Josh fan. (My boss, at Worldview Pic, framed all the “Race to a Million” pictures of Josh holding the large check.) Some people were talking and talking to Josh, wanting to share their stories with him and he is so polite, listening to them all. Oh the agony of being at the end of the line……

I got my autograph quickly signed by Josh, I could tell he was tired out. His eyes seemed a bit glazed. When he got to Kristin she handed him a t-shirt she had gotten for him that was from our local Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf that said “Caution Contents are HOT”. She told Josh about where she had met him before and he smiled, his eyes lit up. He remembered her.

I don’t know what Josh’s policy is about accepting gifts from fans, I don’t know if he kept the shirt or gave it away. Kristin meant for him to wear it. The picture of the shirt was posted that night on http://twitpic.com/67ue4k by Stefany Reed one of the Groband ladies who is @Reeeediculous on Twitter.
